Color Me Creative Quilt Block of the Month, Block Five: Log Cabin

Log Cabin Quilt Block

This month we are going to cut ahead a little bit while making the strips for the Log Cabin Quilt Block. The secret for making a perfect log cabin block is to precut the logs to exact lengths. As you sew them around the center, use pins to make sure the logs line up exactly.   Press every round or so.   This helps keep the block laying flat at the correct size.

I do like the Marti Michell rulers for this reason, but in this block, you are also cutting long strips to use in future blocks. If you haven’t purchased a Stripology Ruler yet, now would be a good time. If you have the Accuquilt Log Cabin Die it will not work for this particular block although it will certainly work for a future log cabin project.

If you like making log cabin blocks, there is a Log Cabin Tutorial Here and a free pattern for the Circle of Life Log Cabin here.
