Pumpkin Spice Latte – A Mini Mystery Quilt in Three Dimensions – Cutting Directions

I’m preparing for my row in the Seams to Be Sew “My Happy Place” Rowalong!  I haven’t had a chance to make new videos yet, but everything else is ready.  Judging from the comments made on the rows that have already been presented, people are having a lot of fun – and winning lots of prizes.

This mini mystery will teach you a couple more techniques that you might or might not need when completing my row.  It’s okay to learn something new, isn’t it?  When you are done, you will have a 25″ x 25″ fall-themed table topper.  (You could always add a border if you wanted to make it bigger.)

Pumpkin Spice Latte – A Mini Mystery in Three Dimensions

The clues for this mini mystery will be given over four days.  This little table topper will finish about 25″ x 25, but you could make it 31″ x 31″ with a border.

Or, if you need it really big, you could put the block on point and add both an inner and an outer border, making it 45″ square.  That will give you a lot of open space in the four corners to add embellishments or appliqué.

All strips are cut by the WOF (width of fabric.)  A 1/4″ seam allowance is assumed.

You don’t need to use my colors!  Cross off my choices and write in yours.  You could use scraps, too, as long as they have the same color and value.

Assemble:

2/3 yard Background
Cut (2) strips 5-1/2″ wide.  From those strips, cut (1) 5-1/2″ x 5-1/2″ square and (24) 5-1/2″  x 3″ rectangles.
Cut (2) strips 3-1/2″ wide.  From those strips cut (12) 3-1/2″ x 3-1/2″ squares
Cut (2) strips 3″ wide.  From those strips cut (20) 3″ x 3″ squares

1/8 yd Gold
Cut (1) strip 3″ wide.  From that strip cut (12) 3″ x 3″ squares

1/3 yd Green
Cut (2) strips 3″ wide.  From those strips cut (20) 3″ x 3″ squares
Cut (1) strip 3-1/2″ wide.  From that strip cut (4) 3-1/2″ x 3-1/2″ squares

1/4 Red
Cut (1) strip 3″ wide.  From that strip cut (8) 3″ x 3″ squares
Cut (1) strip 3-1/2″ wide.  From that strip cut (8) 3-1/2″ x 3-1/2″ squares

1/2 yd optional border
Cut (4) strips 3-1/2″ wide.  (Cut 5 strips if you are setting the block on point.)

2/3 yd optional fabric to set on point.  This could be more background or an accent color.
Cut (1) strip 20″ wide. From that strip, cut (2) 20″ x 20″ blocks.
Cut (4) strips 2″ wide for a floating border.

  2. I’m so glad you saw this! It was kinda last minute – I am trying to do tutorials because my row is three dimensional. I do remember your baby quilt, I am happy you got a ribbon!
