Are you looking for something to do with your kids this summer? Consider Letterboxing. It’s a treasure hunt very similar to Geocaching but you don’t need any special equipment. A letter box is a weatherproof box hidden in publicly-accessible places like a park. The person who hid the box post clues to finding it online on one of several Web sites such as http://www.letterboxing.org/ and http://www.atlasquest.com/ .
Once you find a letterbox, you use the stamp in the box to stamp your log book, and use your personal stamp to stamp their log book. You can also leave a little (non food) treat for the next person to find the box, if you like. It’s a great activity for kids! You can read more about it at http://borntoexplore.org/trails/letterboxing.htm .
Our mystery is solved! You can see pictures here: http://quiltbug.com/free/blooming.htm. This is a very fast table topper or lap quilt. I made a sample in the blues from the Stonehenge line and sold it in three days!
Registration has opened for our annual Autumn at the Lake retreat at the at Bayside Inn in Cooperstown NY. We’ll be making the Blooming Tabletopper, the Spooky tablerunner, a Tiny Tea Tote and a Retreat Carry-All *and* one of our teachers will be offering a special class on learning to machine quilt! This should be a fun, if busy, weekend.
Best of all, this motel charges us by the room, not by the person. That means if you want to pay the single rate to attend the retreat, you can bring your family with you. They can be exploring the sights and events at Otsego Lake and Cooperstown while you are slaving away over a sewing machine.
The Quiltbug shop we will be taking up a care collection for local military personnel stationed overseas. If you are local to Esperance NY, please consider taking up a collection at work and donating it to us on the 11th. We will pack and ship it, don’t worry about that:-)) If you need some suggestions, feel free to print and distribute the Soldiers Wish List at http://quiltbug.com/PDF/care-collection-list.pdf
