# Round the Mountain Mini Quilt Mystery, Clue Three: Creating a Pieced Border

## **Preparing the Border Units**

 Assemble:**

(16) 4-1/2″ x 2″ background strips  
(8) 4-1/2″ x 1-1/2″ blue accent strips (my blue accent fabric is the globes)

Sew the 4-1/2″ x 1-1/2″ blue accent strips between (2) 4-1/2″ x 2″ background strips. Press to the blue accent strip. Make (8) sets.

**Assemble:**

(8) 4-1/2″ square three-part strips you just made  
(16) 2-1/2″ charm HSTs, chosen randomly  
(4) QSTs.

Sew the HSTs side by side as shown below. Press the seam **open**. Your two-part unit should measure 2-1/2″ x 4-1/2″.

Sew the two-part HST set that you just made to one side of the three-part strips as shown. **Watch the direction of those HSTs!**

Press to the three-part strip. Make (8) Sets.

Yes, I am using pins. These pieces are small! I am a big fan of [Clover 2507](https://amzn.to/2Q6E1J0) because they are thin but strong. Sew a QST between the two strips you just made as shown below. Make (4) sets.

Press to the three-part set. This border unit should measure 4-1/2″ x 16-1/2″.
