# Meteor Showers Quilt Block Tutorial and Free Pattern

## The Double Star Quilt Block

[![Shadow Star](https://scrapdash.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/shadow-star-300x300.jpg)](https://scrapdash.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/shadow-star.jpg)Note that this is a 10″ block.

This is a great 10″ block for a meteor shower!

Here’s the Double Star Quilt Block for #QuiltBlockMania. Be sure to check out the full list of designers at the bottom of the page.

The pattern is available for free to subscribers at the bottom of the page. If you’d rather just print, click the green *Print Friendly* button under the designer list. If that doesn’t work, try Ctrl + P (or Flower + P) to bring up the printer dialog box.

Before starting this project, I recommend that you press your fabric with [spray sizing](https://amzn.to/3N4zMer). It will make it easier to cut small pieces. Take the time to clean your machine, put in a new needle, and fill a few bobbins. When pressing, just hold the iron over a spot for a moment or two. This pattern assumes a perfect 1/4” seam.

This block is made with Flying Geese blocks. Some of the blocks are made using [Half-Square-Triangle](https://scrapdash.com/making-half-square-triangles-hsts/) blocks and some are made using the [Quilt-in-a-Day Flying Geese Ruler](https://scrapdash.com/flying-geese-block-one/). That will result in extra Flying Geese, though, as it makes 4 at a time. I thought you might like to use those to make the table runner shown at the bottom of the page. Of course, you can use any method you prefer. Here are some alternates:

- [Using a Traditional Method ](https://scrapdash.com/how-to-make-a-traditional-flying-goose-quilt-block/)
- [Using the Wing Clipper or No-Math Ruler ](https://scrapdash.com/flying-goose-quilt-block/)
- [Using the One-Seam Method](https://scrapdash.com/mardi-gras-geese/)
