# Lucky in Love – a free table runner pattern for St Patrick’s Day

This is a charming 16″ x 45″ table runner that celebrates your love for St. Patrick’s day. (Or, make it in red for Valentine’s Day!) It’s easy to make using the hearts die by [Accuquilt](https://www.awin1.com/cread.php?awinmid=88677&awinaffid=2008229&platform=dl&ued=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.accuquilt.com%2F). If you don’t have the die, all is not lost. Most word processing programs will have a 2″, a 3″, and a 4″ heart motif. Explore your creativity! Be sure to see the list of other Valentine’s Day projects at the bottom of this page.

The pattern is available for free to subscribers at the bottom of the page. If you’d rather print, click the green *Print* button under the designer list. If that doesn’t work, try Ctrl + P (or Flower + P) to bring up the printer dialog box.

## To make this tablerunner, you will need:

 (1) 9″ wide x 40″ long strip of white for the center
 (1) 6″ wide x WOF (width of fabric) strip of brown. Cut this into (3) 1″ wide strips for the first border. The rest of the fabric will be used for the stems.
 (3) 3-1/2″ wide x WOF strips of green for the outer border.
 (2) 5″ wide strips x WOF of green for the hearts. In the project above, I used two different fabrics.
 An [Accuquilt machine and #55029 hearts die](https://www.awin1.com/cread.php?awinmid=88677&awinaffid=2008229&platform=dl&ued=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.accuquilt.com%2Fgo-heart-2-3-4-die.html).
 1/2 yard [Lite Steam-a-seam Il](https://amzn.to/4ifVKc2) or [Heat N Bond](https://www.awin1.com/cread.php?awinmid=89535&awinaffid=2008229&platform=dl&ued=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.fatquartershop.com%2Flite-steam-a-seam-2%3Fsv1%26utm_source%3Dgeniusmonkey%26utm_medium%3Dviewthrough)

To prepare the background for your table runner, cut (2) of the 1″ wide brown strips 40″ long. Sew these to the top and bottom of your white center rectangle, matching the center of the strip with the center of the top. Press to the dark.

Cut the remaining 1″ brown strip into (2) 10″ long strips. Sew these to both sides of the center, matching the center of the strip with the center of the top. Press to the dark.

Cut (2) 3-1/2″ wide green border strips 41″ long. Sew these to the top and bottom of your quilt top, matching the center of the strip with the center of the top. Press to the dark.

Cut the remaining 3-1/2″ green border strip into (2) 16″ long strips. Sew these to both sides of the top, matching the center of the strip with the center of the top. Press to the dark.

Prepare your 5″ wide green strips and a 3″ x 3″ square of the remaining brown strip by adhering fusible web to the back of the fabric following manufacturers instructions. Using the green strips you just prepared and the [Accuquilt machine and #55029 hearts die](https://www.awin1.com/cread.php?awinmid=88677&awinaffid=2008229&platform=dl&ued=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.accuquilt.com%2Fgo-heart-2-3-4-die.html) create (6) big hearts, (8) medium hearts and (15) small hearts. Fuse them to the top as shown above. The stems of the clovers are cut freehand from the 3″ x 3″ square you prepared with fusible.

![Oliso Iron](https://scrapdash.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/oliso-iron.png)

I use and recommend the [Oliso Smart Iron](https://amzn.to/3OCVSVy) for its no-scorch and ergonomic friendliness. Just touch the iron handle and it lowers, ready to press. Take your hand off and it lifts off the board. No need to lift that heavy iron up on its heel, no worrying about tipping, and it actually saves up to 30% of pressing time. You can get to that next quilt sooner! Plus it has a 30-minute shut-off, a 12 foot cord, a flat pressing core, and an easy-to-fill tank you can refill while you work.

Remember, this is YOUR tablerunner. Do whatever you like to personalize it. Just don’t forget to finish it (an overall meander quilting will hold everything in place) and enjoy it!
