# Ten Speed – a Fast, Fun, and Easy Super Sunday Mystery Quilt

This is a mystery designed to use up your scraps! It finishes 70″ x 84″ but can easily be made larger or smaller. I wrote the pattern for 10″ squares, but that doesn’t mean you have to use them. In fact, you may not want to. Several of the clues use Half-Square-Triangle Blocks (HSTs) and I show a different method to make HSTs with each clue. One side of the HST will be scrap and the other side will be background. So gather those odd HST rulers that you have been collecting. I may show you to use them and give you a chance to practice with them. You bought them for a reason, right?

## Fabric Requirements:

- A set of (10) different 10″ squares or a pile of scraps or strips. If you want to use a specific layer cake, you can always piece the outer border (or back) with the extra squares. I made my sample using the [Witley Court 10″ squares](https://www.awin1.com/cread.php?awinmid=89111&awinaffid=2008229&platform=dl&ued=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.connectingthreads.com%2Fwitley-court-10-in-squares%2Fp%2FN5226), but I ended up with extra fabric.
- [3-1/2 yards Background](https://www.awin1.com/cread.php?awinmid=89111&awinaffid=2008229&platform=dl&ued=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.connectingthreads.com%2Ffabrics%2Fwitley-court%2Fc%2FN128) (I loved the subtle stripe and it added a lot of movement to the quilt)
- [1-1/4 yards First Border (& binding)](https://shareasale.com/r.cfm?b=761208&u=1512603&m=60894&urllink=https%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Econnectingthreads%2Ecom%2Ffaux%2Dlinen%2Dtonals%2Dbaltic%2Dsea%2Dquilting%2Dcotton%2Dfabric%2Dyardage%2Fp%2F111797&afftrack=) As I type this, Faux Linen fabric is on sale for $7.16 a yard. I believe that you can use the ACTKRIS coupon code for an additional 15% off, too.
- [1-1/2 yards Outer Border](https://www.awin1.com/cread.php?awinmid=89111&awinaffid=2008229&platform=dl&ued=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.connectingthreads.com%2Ffabrics%2Fwitley-court%2Fc%2FN128)
- [5-1/2 yards backing](https://www.awin1.com/cread.php?awinmid=89111&awinaffid=2008229&platform=dl&ued=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.connectingthreads.com%2Ffabrics%2Fwitley-court%2Fc%2FN128) (Check out the sale page for 108″ wide fabric)

## Look for your first clue on Sunday, February 9 at 9AM EST.

P.S. Do you remember the [Mardi Gras Magic Mystery](https://scrapdash.com/quilt-patterns/mardi-gras-magic-throw-quilt-pattern/) from last year? I used a method of making Flying Geese which created leftover triangles. Two very clever people used those triangles as shown below.

![Final by Darlene](https://scrapdash.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/MM-Darlene-Monk.jpg)Darlene made tiny pinwheels out of hers, which she used in a border to make the quilt larger.

![Alison new quilt](https://scrapdash.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/Alison-Scraps-NYD-604x800.jpg)Alison created a whole new block and set in on point to make another quit.
