This is a faux braid that makes a great border – and an even better tablerunner! I call mine Bipartisan Committee for reasons you will see in a moment. To make it, I started with four strips 2-1/2″ wide by the Width of Fabric (WOF.) I sewed them together pressed them all in one direction…
While I was working on this demo, I realized there were two ways to make this block. I will give you my preferred method first, then the alternatives. Every quilter is different – try them both, then decide what feels best to you. Start with two strips of fabric. I am using 2-1/2″ strips, but…
Time to make the center star. It’s put together in rows – don’t be shy about using sharp pins to keep those seam allowances facing in opposite directions. Double-check your 1/4″ seam allowance, too. Here are some suggested notions from Amazon. Download Color Me Creative Block Ten here.
These Half Star Quilt Blocks are made from HSTs and solid squares. Remember the Half Square Triangles blocks you made in Month One? Well, you get to make more! I’ve made a wish list of notions that will help you – and books that use HST blocks – all from Amazon. Download Color Me Creative…
The Controlled Scrapy Star is Block Eight in this Block-of-the-Month quilt. This month you will be making (4) “controlled scrappy” blocks. There are many, many different ways to make the Flying Geese units used…
The Faux Log Cabin Quilt Block Just like a traditional Log Cabin Quilt Block, the Faux Log Cabin Quit Block is made from strips. But those strips don’t revolve around a central square in a faux log cabin. They start out small and increase in size so the design isn’t actually created until you put…
You have probably guessed at the end of this mystery, but I am going to keep going anyway. I am switching off to graphics rather than the actual quilt because I think they make it easier to understand. Assemble: (12) 2″ x 2″ red squares (10) 2″ x 12-1/2″ background rectangles The LOONG border strip…
Are you all caught up? Just one more thing to create: the sashing that goes between the rows. Get those sharp pins out – keeping everything neat at this point will keep the quilt square. Assemble: Make (6) sashing sets like the one below. These will be the center sashings and the top and bottom…
Are you all caught up? This should be a quick clue. Learn how to miter the seam when you sew two strips together to help hide it in long strips of fabric used in borders and binding. Then, create some rows. Inventory Time You won’t use everything in this clue, you are just double-checking. You…
Let’s put some Tea and Crumpets Mystery-Quilt Blocks together. Before we get started, though, I need to admit a mistake… I Meant to Do That… Somehow in my enthusiasm for this pattern, I miscounted the number of square-in-a-square blocks I needed. The PATTERN was right, it was the quilter who was wrong. Of course, there…
