Are you all caught up? This should be a quick clue. Learn how to miter the seam when you sew two strips together to help hide it in long strips of fabric used in borders and binding. Then, create some rows.
Inventory Time
You won’t use everything in this clue, you are just double-checking. You should have:
- (20) Four-Patch Blocks, each labeled with their number
- (49) 2″ x 12-1/2″ background rectangles
- (30) 2″ x 2″ red squares
- (1) A LOONG border strip
If you haven’t created that LOONG border strip, let’s do that now. Place two strips right sides together. Draw a pencil line from corner to corner.
This is going to bey our sewing line. Pin the line so it doesn’t shift while you are sewing.
Sew!
Trim the seam 1/4″ from the edge of your sewing line.
Press the seam open and you are done!
Sewing Rows
Assemble:
- (20) Four-Patch Blocks, each labeled with their number
- (15) 2″ x 12-1/2″ background rectangles
Working with one row at a time, sew a background rectangle between blocks 1 and 2, 2 and 3, and 3 and 4. Press to the rectangle, which you can now see is actually sashing. (I bet you guessed that.)
Press toward the sashing. Each row should measure 12-1/2″ x 53″. Label each row.
The row above is Row One. Make One of these and press the sashing in, away from the blocks.
The row above is Rows Two, Three and Four. Make Three of these and press the sashing in, away from the blocks.
The row above is Row Four. Make One of these and press the sashing in, away from the blocks.
