This is a Quilt-Block-of-the-Month Mystery series. It starts today! Clues will be presented every Sunday from 6/4/23 until Labor Day. It is a two color (plus background) quilt that finishes about 90″ x 90″. Look for a list of clues at the bottom of this page. To print this clue, use the green Print Friendly button below those clues. If that doesn’t work, try pressing down the CNTRL button and the P button at the same time. Or the COMMAND button and the P button if you are on a Mac. That should bring up the printer dialog.
Just a reminder: Anyone who sends me a picture of their quilt in progress or finished, gets a free copy of the professional pattern after the mystery is over. Offer expires 10/1/23. Send your pictures to phoebemoondesigns@gmail.com.
Clue Six: X Marks the Spot
Assemble:
- (128) 2″ Background squares (If you cut them in clue 3. Otherwise you will have to cut them now.
- (128) Flying Geese blocks (also from Clue 3)
- Cut (3) Background strips 3-1/2″ wide by the Width of Fabric. From these strips, cut (32) 3-1/2″ Background squares
Sew a Flying Geese block to both sides of a 3-1/2″ Background square as shown below. Press to the center square. Make (32) sets.
Sew a 2″ square to both sides of a Flying Geese block as shown as illustrated above. Press to the Background square. Make (64) sets.
Turning half of these groups upside down, make (32) X units as shown below. Because of the way you pressed your seams, they should just nestle at the intersection. Use pins to encourage this behavior.
Press the rows toward the 2″ Background squares. Give your block one final pressing and square up to 6-1/2″ if necessary.
See you next week!
