I always try to do something a bit challenging for the New Years Day Mystery, something that may teach a new technique or goes outside of the box a little. This year I am doing a 36″ x 36″ Mini Quilt, which requires some very precise piecing! I tend to be somewhat casual about my 1/4″ seam, but you sure can’t do that when you are working with small pieces. That’s why I put a quarter inch foot on the list below.
Come back January 1, 2020 at 9 AM Eastern for the first clue. The rest of the clues will be presented every hour for 7 hours.
Things you will find helpful
A strip cutting ruler
A 2-1/2″, 4-1/2″ and a 6-1/2″ square ruler
A Quarter Inch Foot
Best Press or other spray starch
chocolate (just kidding!)(maybe not)
Fabric Requirements
1 stack of (34) 5″ charm squares
1/2 yd Background fabric
1/3 yd blue accent fabric
1/4 yd tan accent fabric
1/3 yd outer border
1/4 yard binding
1 yard striped fabric for the inner border if the stripe is parallel to the
selvage OR 1/4 yd striped fabric if the stripe is perpendicular to the selvage.
1-1/4 yards backing
These are my fabrics. I couldn’t find fabrics that exactly matched the colors in the pattern so I picked the stripe first and tried to get complementary colors and fabrics.
