This mystery quilt is designed to show you two different ways to make perfect flying geese blocks. The clue links are listed at the bottom of this tutorial. To print just this clue, use the green Print Friendly button at the bottom of this page.
In this clue, you are starting to make the blocks for the actual quilt.
The Kings Crown Quilt Block
Assemble:
- The Flying Geese Quilt Blocks that you made using the No-Math Method (Block Two)
- (10) 6-1/2″ Background squares
- (20) 3-1/2″ Dark squares
- (20) 3-1/2″ Light-Medium squares
Sew two flying geese units to either side of a 6 ½” background unit, making sure to put the larger side of the goose toward the center. Press toward the Flying Goose. (See diagram below)
Sew a dark 3-1/2″ square to the one side of two flying geese units. Sew a light-medium 3-1/2″ square to the other side. Be sure both your flying geese blocks are pointing in the same direction when you do this. Press to the squares.
Sew these units to the top and bottom of the rectangle you made in the first step to make a block which looks the one in the upper left hand corner of this page. Press and square up to 12-1/2″ if necessary.
Make a total of (10) blocks following the method above.
IF YOU ARE MAKING THE LARGER SIZE
You will need more blocks. You will need to make a total of (15) Kings Crown blocks.
