Pretty in Paisley
This is a 72″ x 88″ quilt with two narrow borders. If you would like to make it smaller, just make fewer blocks. If you would like to make it larger, just add borders. Easy peasy.

Creating Sashing
Assemble:
- (80) 2-1/2 × 6-1/2″ Taupe Gingham rectangles
- (80) 2-1/2 × 6-1/2″ Blue Gingham rectangles
- (160) 2-1/2″ Dark Blue Ditsy squares
- (160) 2-1/2″ Deep Blue squares
The sashing blocks in this pattern are created using a technique called flip-n-sew. It is similar to the technique that is used in foundation or paper piecing.
Draw a diagonal line on the back of the all the 2-1/2″ squares. Place a Deep Blue square right sides together in the right corner of a Blue Gingham rectangle so that the diagonal line touches both corners. This is your sewing line. Sew on this line and flip the Deep Blue square over the line so it meets the edge of the rectangle. Press to the square. Trim the seam allowance to 1/4″ if you like.
Add the Dark Blue Ditsy square to the opposite using the same method. Make (80). I suggest “chain stitching” them one right after the other by not cutting them apart until you are ready to press. Press.
Using this same method, make (80) 2-1/2 × 6-1/2″ Taupe Gingham rectangles with Deep Blue squares on the left and Dark Blue Ditsy squares on the right.
Sew the two rectangle sections together. This unit will become the sashing between the Nine-Patch blocks. Make (80) and press the seam open. This unit should measure 4-1/2 × 6-1/2″.
